The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma is putting serious money where its mouth is. A $140 million expansion and modernization programme at Choctaw Casino & Resort in Pocola signals real ambition to compete in the regional gaming market and cement the property’s role as an economic engine for eastern Oklahoma.

From Bingo Hall to Full Resort

Since 1994, when the Pocola property started as a small bingo operation, it’s come a long way. Three decades on, it’s evolved into a proper entertainment destination with hotel rooms, extensive gaming floors, dining outlets, and event space. The expansion builds on that foundation rather than abandoning it.

The Numbers

The centrepiece is a new seven-storey hotel tower adding 130 rooms, including upgraded suites. That nearly doubles the resort’s lodging capacity, which matters if you’re trying to attract visitors from northwest Arkansas and the River Valley region. Meanwhile, the existing 118 rooms get a full refresh: new furnishings, updated lighting, modern bathrooms, the lot.

Beyond beds, the project includes amenities that today’s leisure travellers actually want. Resort-style pool with cabanas, a dedicated spa, 24/7 fitness centre, and specialty coffee and tea venues. These aren’t gimmicks. They’re the sort of touches that drive repeat visits and longer stays.

Gaming and Operational Upgrades

The expansion creates dedicated spaces for poker, off-track betting, and rewards programme facilities. Food and beverage outlets throughout the resort get refreshed with new concepts and a craft beverage focus. That attention to F&B offerings reflects where the industry is headed: gaming is the core, but hospitality amenities justify higher room rates and longer visits.

Local Economic Impact

The Choctaw Nation frames this correctly. Pocola Casino is already a significant employer in LeFlore County, and this expansion will create jobs during construction and ongoing operations. For a region competing for visitor spend, a modernized resort property punches above its weight economically.

Tutor Perini Construction and JCJ Architecture are handling the build, with groundbreaking scheduled for later this year. For the Choctaw Nation, this investment reflects confidence in long-term growth and positions Pocola to compete more effectively as the regional gaming landscape continues to shift.
