FBI Hunts Missouri Casino Robber After $1.2M Heist, Offers $5K Reward
Federal authorities are turning up the heat in their search for Hollis C. Vanleer Jr., the fugitive suspect behind a brazen $1.2 million theft at the Isle of Capri Casino in Boonville, Missouri. The FBI has slapped a $5,000 reward on information that leads to his arrest.
How the Robbery Unfolded
March 25. Two armed men in dark clothing and masks pulled off what investigators describe as a meticulously planned operation. They went straight for a restricted cash handling area in the casino’s rear, jumped a secured counter, and stuffed over a million dollars into a duffel bag before making their exit. The speed and precision of it all suggest insider knowledge was involved.
Police believe diversionary tactics were the real masterstroke here. Explosive devices were detonated outside the casino, drawing attention away from the actual crime scene. A bystander tried to step in during the suspects’ escape, leading to a brief physical confrontation, but the thieves still got away clean.
Inside Connection Identified
One of the two men was quickly identified as Benjamin Michael-Dass Charles, a casino employee. Arrested shortly after the incident, Charles is considered a key planner in all this. Evidence suggests the operation had been in preparation for weeks. Investigators found receipts and homemade explosives in a vehicle connected to the suspects, which pretty much sealed Charles’s involvement.
Vanleer Jr., though? Still out there. Formally charged in mid-April with first-degree robbery, armed criminal action, and assault, he’s got an active arrest warrant on his head. Problem is, he’s managed to evade capture so far.
What We Know About the Suspect
Authorities describe Vanleer Jr. as approximately 6 feet 1 inch tall, black hair, brown eyes. He’s got a distinctive tattoo on his left hand. Law enforcement warns he should be considered dangerous and urge the public not to approach him under any circumstances.
Investigators reckon he may have connections to Illinois, particularly the Chicago area and Normal. The FBI continues working with state and local authorities as they chase down active leads. Anyone with information about Vanleer Jr.’s whereabouts should contact the FBI immediately.
